Another Combi

Another Comb
Originally uploaded by Sadlr

This weekend was Em's second Optimist combi. We went to the Bergummermeer on Saturday and Sunday with her boat and my binoculars. Even with a new pair of shorts she wasn't able to repeat her race win of a couple of weeks ago, finishing tenth for the weekend and she's now lying ninth overall after two events.

Its been a week of lids and lockers on the Willem Johannes this week. Peter has been getting the kitchen cupboards and draws in while I've been up front in the bedrooms and bathroom.
It's a race against the clock to get the boat 'liveable' before the end of the month.

Fed up with carrying heavy plywood sheets round from our third shop, Peter and I made an opening in the wall between the shops and went back to work. Jasper will come in and make a couple of doors in a frame for us next week.

With an afternoon to fill Claudia knocked up a small set of stairs for the Willem Johannes. We should have done this months ago. Though temporary these stairs may be in place for a year before we get around to making the real ones from Ash.

With two coats of Koopmans on the doors they are ready for the hinges and locks and delivery to the 'Dankbaarheid'
Next up is the sliding skylight over the doors. Claudia has copied the round top of the doors onto a pice of mahogany so that the front of the skylight fits the doors.

All's well that ends well

The DTP team

Two more races today at the CombiNoord on the Zuidlaardermeer. Em got another eighth in the first race, starting well but losing her concentration halfway through the race. The second race start was one I'd be glad to have and she not only held on to first place but stretched her lead to more than half the final beat. It wasn't quite enough to catch Dennis [holding the left hand end of the club flag] and get into the prizes but she was ecstatic and we were proud.
Here's the DTP team with a fair handful of cups - well done all of you.

Em's first away game

Here is Em waiting for the briefing to start at her fist Optimist event away from the club. A good turnout gave 43 boats in three fleets. Em managed two 8ths and a 9th today and hopes to even better tomorrow. I'm just happy she enjoys sailing so much.

When we got home Lisa came round with a plate of cookies. Thanks Lisa.
We then drove to Lauwersoog to collect a tired and sunburnt Em.
